Mt. Hermon basketball teams competing in Maurepas Jamboree Thursday evening

It is a new era for Mt. Hermon School basketball, as the boys and girls basketball teams are competing in the 2018 Maurepas Basketball Jamboree on Thursday, Oct. 25.
Both of Mt. Hermon’s basketball teams will feature new head coaches this season.
On the boys team, Josh Priola comes over from Mandeville where he was the head junior varsity coach and an assistant varsity coach.
Mary McGinnis is the new Lady Jackets coach, after spending the last three seasons as the head girls coach at Pine.
Both teams will play a pair of 10-minute games.
Three schools, totaling six teams, are represented, with Mt. Hermon, Holden and Maurepas having their boys and girls teams participate.
The six-game event begins at 5 p.m. and Mt. Hermon’s teams will be playing in the first four.
Mt. Hermon’s girls face Holden and Mt. Hermon’s boys go against Holden next.
Games three and four have Mt. Hermon’s girls and boys play against Maurepas.
The final two games are Holden and Maurepas girls, followed by the boys game.
Last year, Mt. Hermon’s boys reached the regional round of the Class B playoffs before coming up short to quarterfinalist Weston, 67-63, in double overtime.
Maurepas lost in the bi-district round of the Class B postseason to semifinalist Hicks, 86-33.
Holden suffered a 55-42 loss to semifinalist Pitkin, 55-42, in the bi-district round.
Mt. Hermon’s girls team lost in the bi-district round to regional round team Glenmora, 57-28.
Maurepas suffered a 49-28 loss to regional round team Quitman, 49-28.
Holden enters this season after capturing the state championship with a 40-39 victory over Anacoco.
Mt. Hermon’s boys’ team will open the regular season on Nov. 1 with a home game against Lutheran.
The girls begin the 2018 regular season the following day on the road against Family Christian. The boys also play that day.
