Two Bowling Green School softball players and a coach have one more game left this season.
Senior shortstop Breanna Tobey and senior centerfielder Anna Beninato were selected to the AAA-AAAA MAIS All-Star Team.  Bowling Green coach David Hood Burris is the head coach of the Blue Team. The game is the afternoon of Wednesday, Oct. 10.
“Both are very deserving,” Burris said. “They both led our team this year on defense and at the plate. They’re couldn’t be two more deserving kids than those two. I know they’re excited about getting to play in the All-Star Game and getting one more high school game. I feel privileged about being picked by my peers to coach it.”
The All-Star Game is set for today at Jackson Prep.
This season, Tobey hit .401 with a .458 on base percentage. Tobey tallied six doubles, a triple, a homer, 16 runs batted in and she scored 36 runs. She stole 18 bases in as many attempts. Tobey struck out just seven times in 125 plate appearances.
Beninato was a defensive specialist and did some courtesy running for Bowling Green. Beninato started every game in centerfield for the Lady Bucs. Beninato committed just two errors and tallied a .975 field percentage. Beninato had limited at bats with 64 plate appearances. She had a .275 on base percentage with a double, six RBIs and 10 runs scored. Like Tobey, Beninato was perfect in stolen base attempts. She swiped five bases.
Bowling Green first-year coach Burris helped guide the Lady Bucs to a district title and a South State Championship. The team came up one win short of competing for the Class AAA championship.
