South State Champions!

Bowling Green School went 4-0 and took home the Class AAA South State Tournament Title on Monday after downing Cathedral Unit School, 10-1, in the championship game.
Several Lady Buccaneers had a big game in the finals.
Breanna Tobey and Landry Dupont both drove in three runs with both recording two runs. Tobey scored two runs and Dupont tallied one.
Anna Beninato also had two hits. She scored two runs and drove in a run.
Morgan Lusk posted a hit and two RBIs.
Anna Claire Crowe logged a hit and a run batted in.
Cassidy Spears and Kylee Burris had a hit each.
Madelyn Burch went the distance, allowing one unearned run on just three hits with 12 strikeouts and no walks.
“It’s the first time in a long time we’ve won South State. The girls turned it on at the right time of the year and got hot. We had three errors for the whole weekend, so we played pretty clean,” Bowling Green coach David Hood Burris said.
Bowling Green opened the South State Tournament that took place Saturday and Monday in Watson, with a 5-2 victory over Cathedral Unit School, 5-2.
Dixie Camaille and Tobey both had two hits. Camaille drove in a run for the Lady Bucs.
Dupont, Lusk, Burch and Spears all posted one hit. Dupont, Lusk and Burch drove in a run apiece.
Burch threw the first four innings, allowing no runs on two hits with seven strikeouts.
Burris pitched the final three frames, allowing one unearned run on two hits.
The next game was a 3-0 victory over Hillcrest Christian School.
Hillcrest entered the game with a 24-0 record.
Dupont and Spears posted two hits each. Spears drove in a pair of runs.
Beninato tallied a hit.
Camaille had a sacrifice fly.
Burch threw a complete-game four-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts and no walks.
That win allowed the Lady Bucs to advance to the semifinals.
Bowling Green faced Silliman Institute.
The contest was tied at 2-2 after 6.5 innings. Spears hit a walk-off RBI double off of the left field fence that plated Beninato with the game-winning run for a 3-2 final.
Spears had two hits and the RBI.
Beninato recorded a hit.
Dupont and Burch each had one hit with Dupont driving in one run.
Burch continued her stellar pitching.
She went the distance, allowing one earned run on three hits with 10 strikeouts and two walks.
Bowling Green advances to the Class AAA Tournament, which takes place Sept. 29 and Oct. 1 in Magee, Miss.
