Bowling Green School’s Lady Buccaneers had a solid week that ended with the team capturing the District 4AAA Championship with a 4-0 win over Columbia Academy.
The team had a 2-0-1 record for their games held Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
On Monday, the Lady Bucs celebrated Senior Night with a 10-0 six-inning victory over Central Private School.
Bowling Green has three seniors this year in Anna Beninato, Whitney Bond and Breanna Tobey.
Cassidy Spears led a solid offensive attack with a 4-for-4 night and she doubled all four times. Spears drive in a run and scored two runs.
Beninato went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Tobey and Whitney Bond both had a hit.
Tobey drove in a run and Bond recorded a run scored.
Madelyn Burch pitched two hitless innings with four strikeouts.
Kyle Burris threw four innings, allowing three hits and striking out four.
Bowling Green and Natchez Cathedral played to a 1-1 tie on Tuesday at Southwest Mississippi Community College in Summit.
Tobey, Spears and Hannah Varnado all recorded a hit.
Spears drove in Tobey for the Lady Bucs’ only run.
Burch went four innings of shutout ball, allowing two hits and striking out nine.
Burris threw three innings, giving up two hits, one unearned run and striking out three.
In Thursday’s action, the Lady Buccaneers were victorious over Columbia Academy, 4-0, to capture the District 4AAA title.
Burch had a solid day pitching and hitting.
Burch threw a complete game four-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts and two walks. At the plate, she went 3-for-4.
Morgan Lusk tallied a hit and two runs batted in.
Anna Claire Crowe posted a hit and two runs scored.
Spears had a hit and an RBI.
Dupont recorded a hit.
Bowling Green opens the South State Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 11 a.m. at Live Oak Park in Watson. The Lady Bucs will face either Cathedral Unit School or Riverfield Academy. Those two teams play either other at 9 a.m.
