The Louisiana State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation have been called in to investigate a recent incident at the Washington Parish Jail, although few details about the incident are being released at this time.
Chief Deputy Mike Haley of the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office confirmed that there was an event at the jail that led to the investigation by outside agencies, but did not elaborate further.
“Last week, the sheriff was made aware of an incident in the jail,” Haley said. “He contacted FBI and Louisiana State Police and asked them to conduct the investigation. The investigation is ongoing and both agencies have requested we not comment until the investigation is concluded.”
Dustin Dwight, public information officer for the Louisiana State Police’s Troop L, was also brief when asked to comment.
“The Louisiana State Police were contacted by the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office to investigate an incident that occurred at the Washington Parish Jail,” Dwight said, in an email to The Daily News. “We are in the early stages of that investigation.”
The Daily News reached out to the FBI for comment Friday morning, but had not received a response as of press time.
