The regular season is here for Bowling Green School, as the Buccaneers take to the road to play Park Place Christian Academy.
“It’s a big game to start it for us,” Bowling Green first-year coach Boomer Nuñez said. “They’re a big physical team that we lost to last week. It’s a tough opponent with some big kids we need to game plan for.”
Bowling Green was 0-10 last season, but the team was solid in last week’s jamboree, blanking Baton Rouge CHEF, 26-0.
Quarterback Johntae McDowell had a hand in all four touchdowns, throwing three and rushing for one. McDowell threw for 140 yards.
The McDowell/Cameron Bell connection is likely going to be one to watch. Last week, the two connected for a pair of touchdowns of 14 and 70 yards.
Rashaan Duke caught a 43-yard touchdown pass from McDowell.
Defensively, Bowling Green forced three turnovers and made a sack.
Bell intercepted a pass while Brayden McGehee and Mitchell Lott recovered a fumble each and Jackson Miley made a sack.
When asked if any players stuck out on defense, Nuñez said, “I was impressed with having 11 guys to the football every play. If we keep that mentality, we’ll have 11 guys sticking out every week.”
Park Place Christian won last year’s game, 27-14, and went on to finish with a 6-4 season. Park Place Christian reached the playoffs, but lost to Starkville, 41-0, in the opening round.
