Ben’s Ford hosting jamboree tonight

Plenty of football action will take place tonight at Ben’s Ford Christian School, as the Eagles host a jamboree in a final tune-up before the regular season begins next Friday.
Both local teams in the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools — Ben’s Ford and Bowling Green — are competing in the jamboree.
Ben’s Ford played in a Brookhaven Academy scrimmage last week that also included St. Aloysius.
In the scrimmage, Tyler Winstead threw two touchdowns, one each to Justin Moore and Jordan Provost, both against Brookhaven.
Justin Stewart hit one of his two extra-point attempts.
“For the previous two years, we’ve tried to host a jamboree and it has fell through because of weather conditions. For the guys, it’s big for us because I think we’re an improved football team,” Ben’s Ford Christian School Dean King. “For us to go in and come out with a win would be a big. We talk about talking about improving each week. After last week, I felt like we needed to improve on defending the pass and if we can come out and improve on that and still be able to stop the run, and we did good job against the run last week, I think that would help us out a lot. I also want to see full-team effort. I want to see us being able to physical and be full speed on defense. I want to see us getting into our coverages full-speed, but the main thing is being physical. I want to continue to see our offensive line getting better, make good catches and good throws. We want to work on our odds-and-ends we need to fix.”
Bowling Green first-year coach Boomer Nunez said they do not have much information about their opponent, offensively or defensively.
“We just want to line up, communicate and play hard,” Nunez said.
The jamboree helps coaches evaluate where their teams are.
“You really never know where you’re at going against yourself each day. We want to work on the things we’re not good at and polish the things we are good at,” Nunez said.
The jamboree opens with a junior varsity game between Bowling Green School at 5 p.m. That game is followed by three varsity games.
The varsity opener is between New Orleans Home School and Acadiana Home School at 6 p.m.
The next game features Bowling Green School and Baton Rouge CHEF at 7 p.m.
The 2018 Ben’s Ford Christian School Jamboree wraps up with the host school facing Salem at 8 p.m.
Contests have a pair of 20-minute halves, with a running clock and an eight-minute halftime.
