Varnado has named Brett Cooper as its new athletic director.
“I’m pretty excited just to cover all of the sports and build the programs up. I know I’m probably one of the younger ones to ever get AD, but I’m going to learn as I go,” Cooper said.
Cooper, 27, a 2008 Pine High School graduate, is the school’s boys head basketball coach and he is an assistant football coach for the Wildcats.
Cooper is entering his third season as the head boys basketball coach and he is starting his fourth season as a Varnado assistant football coach.
In his two seasons since taking the helm for basketball, Varnado has gone 27-25, which includes playoff appearances in both seasons. The Wildcats made it to the regional round of the Class 1A playoffs in his first season.
“Brett is very knowledgeable of multiple sports,” Varnado principal Jennifer Beninato said. “He is an extremely dedicated and hard working coach and teacher. He has a humbling spirit about him.
“He is a genuine person and he always wants to do what’s right for these kids and look and find ways that will help them develop and become better citizens and athletes and scholars.”
