Ben’s Ford Christian School’s Tyler Winstead

Ben’s Ford Christian School senior Tyler Winstead is a three-sport athlete, playing football, basketball and baseball.
In football, Winstead is the team’s starting quarterback and will see time at safety this season. This is Winstead’s second year as a full-time starter as the team’s signal caller.
In basketball, he played point guard last season. In baseball, Winstead plays all over the diamond. He saw time at pitcher, outfield, shortstop, second base and third base.
Last season, Winstead was a first-team all-district player in football and basketball.
Ben’s Ford football coach Dean King said Winstead is one of the leaders on the team.
“He’s one of our top players if not the top that we look to do good this year,” King said. “Tyler’s a hard worker. He doesn’t ever miss a practice. He doesn’t ever miss a workout. He’s the quarterback of the football team. This is going to be his last year and we look for him to have a big year.”
Ben’s Ford played in a scrimmage yesterday at Brookhaven Academy and the Eagles are hosting a jamboree on Friday, Aug. 17.

What do you enjoy most about playing your sports? Why?
I really like football. I think there’s nothing else like being able to play on Friday nights. That’s probably the only place I’d like to be on a Friday night and I love it. Basketball, same thing, I just love being able to play, and I guess, a brothership with my teammates and being able to have that relationship. I enjoy that. Baseball it’s all fun. I love it. I love all of the sports.

What do you like best about being a student athlete?
It gets hard sometimes with school and playing sports, but there’s nothing like it. I love playing all of the sports. It’s just something I hope I can continue doing.

Who has been the most influential person in your school sports career? Why?
My dad (Brent). Ever since peewee in every sport, he’s always pushed me to be the best on the field. If I’m doing something, do it to the best of my ability. He’s always just pushed me to give 100 percent.

Who is your favorite athlete? Why?
Alvin Kamara for the Saints. He was the Offensive Rookie of the Year and I think that shows about his character and his work ethic. I really like that about him.

Favorite team?
New Orleans Saints.

Best thing about living on the Washington Parish?
I guess since I go to school here, I like being able to be close to my friends. I like the area.
