Jaron Edwards Basketball Camp

The third annual Jaron Edwards Basketball Camp takes place July 9-13 at Bowling Green School for boys and girls in third through eighth grade.

The goal of the clinic is to develop fundaments and Edwards said it will be very competitive.

The camp will have daily skill instruction, 5-on-5 game play, hot shot contest, free-throw competition and each camper receives an official camp T-shirt and basketball.

The clinic features offensive fundamentals such as shooting, passing and ball handling. There will also be defensive fundamentals like proper stance and footwork, rebounding and man-to-man techniques.

Team fundamentals will be taught, as players will be divided and assigned a team coach to help implement the individual skill taught in a team setting.

The clinic runs from 9 a.m. until noon for third to fifth graders and 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. for sixth through eighth graders.

The cost is $65 and the entry deadline is June 30. The camp fee can be dropped off the Bowling Green School office.

British Soccer Camp going to Franklinton

The Franklinton Youth Soccer Association has teamed up with Challenger Sports to bring the most popular soccer camp in the country to our community at Franklinton Youth Soccer Association Fields from July 16-20.

With programs for all ages and abilities, local players have an opportunity to share a fun, positive and educational camp experience centered around a daily regimen of foot skills, moves, juggling, tactical practices and daily tournament play by one of Challenger’s 1,100 International soccer coaches who inspire confidence, happiness and help build self-esteem.

The highlight of the week is the Camp World Cup, adding friendly competition and cultural variety to each day. The daily tournament gives campers the chance to represent a world cup team, with extra points being awarded for making up chants, wearing team colors of their chosen country, creating flags, and learning as much as they can about their chosen country’s culture.

New for 2018 is the iCHALLENGE digital learning app.

Extending their camp experience year-round, every camper receives access to iCHALLENGE — a sophisticated new digital learning app along with a library of soccer skills and exercises to practice at home. Campers view and practice the skills linked to their ability level, upload a video displaying their chosen skills, receive personalized online coaching from experienced virtual coaches and even score points for videos and compete in league tables with other players around the world.

Parents are encouraged to sign up online in advance. Space is limited. To register and for more information, including a schedule of Abita Springs’ days and times, go to www.challengersports.com or contact Nick Rundell at 469-713-2737 or email nrundell@challengersports.com.
