Locals solid in Bayou Liberty competition

Venturer Crew 313 and another local paddler were solid in the 66th annual Bayou Liberty Races, which were sponsored by the Bayou Liberty Civic Center.
Brannan Crosby was victorious in the Common Boat Race.
Matthew Kirkland was fourth.
Payton Lewis won the 8-12-year old Pirogue Race.
Isaiah Brown was third, followed by Ethen Boyett.
Crew 313 took second through fourth place in the 13-16s Pirogue Race.
Zachary Kirkland was second, Jacob Stillwell was third and Carter Wascom finished fourth.
The team of Brannan Crosby/Rex Perrette were victorious in the first elimination two-man canoe race.
Keyden Lewis/Ivan Guidry were second, followed by Issac Webb/Alex Smith and James Stillwell/Peyton Coleman.
Josh Gulczynski/Zachary Kirkland captured the second elimination race.
The team of Hunter Fussell/Gage Duncan were second, followed by Matthew Russell/Carter Wascom, John Gulczynski/Issac Wascom, Matthew Dennis/Jacob Stillwell and Isaiah Brown/Boyett.
The top four finishers from the two races went on to paddle in the two-man championship canoe race.
Crosby/Perrette took home the title.
Josh Gulczynski/Zachary Kirkland took second, followed by Russell/Carter Wascom, James Stillwell/Coleman, Dennis/Jacob Stillwell, Webb/Smith and Lewis/Guidry.
James Stillwell was third in the blindfold race.
Paul Dauterive took second in the kayak race.
Dauterive captured the Men’s Championship Race.
Local paddler Lauren Haik captured the Ladies Championship Race.
“The day turned out beautiful. We failed to get the rain they had promised. It was a cool, breezy, sunny day. I felt the new paddlers in 313 did well,” Crew 313 Advisor Col. Bobby Miller said.
