Bogalusa High School’s track and field teams held their third annual Track and Field Fun Day Meet at Lewis V. Murray Stadium on May 9.
The event allowed area schools to compete in a track and field meet while also helping raise money for Bogalusa’s track and field program.
“The event went about as well as planned. We had one setback. Once that was taken care of, and we were able to get on track and everything went accordingly. We had high school kids working each event and they did an outstanding job,” Bogalusa coach Eddie Walker said. “I appreciate the coaches for bringing their kids and there were no issues or problems that were raised by any participants. All of the award ceremonies went off well and the timers did a good job.”
The competition featured first through sixth graders. Medals were awarded for first place and ribbons will be handed out for those that finish in second through seventh place.
Four schools, including Bogalusa, Central Elementary, Northshore Charter and Annunciation Catholic School, competed. There were about 100 people competing.
The schools with the most participants were also awarded.
Central Elementary had the most and Northshore Charter School was second.
Several events took place that day, including the shot put, softball throw, long jump, the 50 meters, 100, 200, 400, 800 and 4×100 relay. First and second graders had the opportunity to compete in the standing broad jump.
“We basically want to give back to the schools in the area. They have great potential in the Bogalusa area,” Walker said. “We want them to have the same great experience that we’ve had, of being able to compete in track and field.”
Members of Bogalusa’s track team helped out with the events.
Bogalusa is hosting its track and field, cross country and volleyball banquet on Tuesday, May 22 at the event center. The event is open to the public.
