Franklinton finished eighth in the state in Division II golf, capping off a solid season at the state tournament that took place Monday and Tuesday at The Farm d’Allie in Carencro.

The Demons posted a 794 for the two days.

Dillen Reeves led Franklinton with a 180 combined for the two days, with a 90 in each round. Brett Bryant posted a 184 (94-90), Kaleb Mizell carded a 202 (107-95), Grant Thomas had a 228 (119-109) and Andrew Schilling had a 255 (130-125).

“It was a great accomplishment for those kids to get there,” Franklinton coach Steven Burris said. “It was third time in school history. They can say they did something not many others have done. It was a good experience for them and they enjoyed themselves.

“They didn’t play good, but they should be proud of their accomplishments. They won their league, they finished second in district and fourth and regional. They were the only public school from this part of the state to make it to state.”

Reaching state was a two-step process. The top four teams from district and the top four individuals that were not a on a qualifying team made it to regionals. The requirements to qualify for state are the same as going from district to regionals.

Benton won the team competition with a 660, as eight teams made it to state.

St. Thomas More was second with a 666, followed by St. Louis Catholic’s 681, Vandebilt Catholic’s 686 and Tuerlings Catholic’s 712.

Benton’s Hayden White won the individual competition with a 141.

St. Thomas More’s Matt Weber was second after posting a 143, followed by Westlake’s Austin DeReese’s 158, Lusher’s Clarence Morse’s 159 and St. Louis Catholic’s Connor Welsh’s 161.
