Pine golfer Tanner McKenzie has advanced to the state tournament after his performance at the Division III Region II Golf Tournament at Santa Maria Golf Course in Baton Rouge on Tuesday.
The top four teams and the top four individuals that were not on an advancing team qualified for state.
McKenzie posted a 74, which tied him with Loreauville’s Drake Hoffpauir, for the top spot in individual qualifying golfers.
McKenzie and Hoffpauir were just two strokes from winning the top spot overall. Episcopal’s John Hayden Wood won the tournament with a 72.
The rest of the qualifiers are St. Charles teammates Mikey Landry and Will Torres, who posted a 75 and 77.
The Division III state tournament will take place Monday and Tuesday at the Wetlands Golf Course in Lafayette, in a two-day, 36-hole competition.
