Pine’s Clark runner up in discus at district

Pine’s Makia Clark was a second-place finisher in the discus during the District 10-2A Meet that was held Wednesday, April 18, at Christ Episcopal School in Covington.
Clark threw the discus 86 feet, 8 inches. Pope John Paul II’s Madison Wilford won with a throw of 94-0.
Wednesday’s meet was a qualifying meet. The top four finishers from each event advanced to the regional meet. The Region 3-2A Meet will take place today at Tad Gormley Stadium in New Orleans.
Pine is the only team from Washington Parish in District 10-2A.
Clark was fourth in the shot put with a 26-1, as Amite’s Whitley Franklin was the winner at 33-4.
Lauren Richardson qualified for regionals in the 400 meters after running it in 1 minute, 37 seconds to finish fourth. Pope John Paul II athlete and Bogalusa resident Kylie Nielson won the event in 1:17.
The Lady Raiders had several other athletes that also competed.
Ateria Williams was fifth in the 100 after finishing in 14.01 seconds. Northlake Christian School’s Kyren Whittington won in 13.17.
Angel Cochran ran a 1:40 in the 400 for fifth.
Amite won a close team competition with 92 points.
Pope John Paul II was just two points behind for second, followed by Northlake Christian School’s 39, Pine’s 10 and Independence’s two.
