FHS’s Delatte wins 100-meter hurdles

Franklinton’s Porsha Delatte was victorious in the 100-meter hurdles and the Lady Demons had a solid District 8-4A Meet at Salmen on April 17.
Delatte was the 100 hurdles’ winner in 16.90 seconds. Lakeshore’s Katia Shostak was second at 17.04.
This was a qualifying meet. The top four finishers from each event are headed to regionals. The Region 3-4A Meet is taking place today at South Terrebonne.
Franklinton is the only District 8-4A school from Washington Parish.
Delatte also qualified for regionals in the 300 hurdles after running a 50.96. St. Scholastica Academy’s Camryn Donahue won in 49.54.
Raelyn Gross and Tamirria Thomas ran second and fourth in the 100 with times of 13.70 and 14.01. Salmen’s Trinity Benson won in 12.94.
Also qualifying in individual events were Gross, Drahcir Magee and Miriam Tate.
Gross also advanced in the triple jump with a distance of 30 feet, 10.75 inches. Shostak won in 32-1.
Magee is headed to regionals in the high jump and long jump. Magee was second in the high jump after clearing the bar at 4-9 and she finished fourth in the long jump at 14-4.25. Lakeshore’s Jasmine Thomas won the high jump at 5-2 and Shostak was the long jump winner at 15-7.5.
Tate advanced in the javelin and discus with a third and fourth place finish, respectively. Tate threw the javelin 92-8 and the discus 65-3. Pearl River’s Remi Crawford won the javelin at 102-8 and Lakeshore’s Ashley Ducre was the discus winner at 101-2.
Kassidy Neilson qualified for regionals in the 200 with a time of 29.05. Benson won in 26.62.
Franklinton’s 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams both finished in second, with times of 53.05 and 1 minute, 54 seconds. The 4×100 team included Jalyn Bickham, Nielson, Gross and Delatte. The 4×200 group was Bickham, India Dickerson, Thomas and Gross.
Salmen won both events in 52.31 and 1:52.
Lakeshore won the team competition with 126 points, as five teams posted points.
St. Scholastica Academy was second with 102, followed by Franklinton’s 56, Salmen’s 47 and Pearl River’s 34.
Several other athletes also competed for the Lady Demons.
Alexia Mason ran fifth in the 400 with a 1:13, as Lakeshore’s Haley Dean won in 1:01.
Yvone Tran was fifth for the 1,600 with a time of 6:31. St. Scholastica Academy’s Molly McHale won in 5:54.
Deborah Brewster finished fifth for the discus with a throw of 64-9.
Danaria Magee was fifth in the javelin with a throw of 78-7.
Aleria Dillon and Marlaysia Robertson were sixth and ninth for the shot put at 27-8.25 and 25-6.25. Crawford won at 31-3.
Aaliyah Young was eighth in the 400 after running a 1:19.
Drahcir Magee was eighth in the 300 hurdles in 1:03.
Derranajuh Warren was ninth in the 200 at 29.94.
