Bucs’ relay team, 2 individuals advance

Two Bowling Green School athletes qualified for the South State Track Meet in individual events, along with a relay team, in the District 4AAA Meet last week at Jackson Academy in Mississippi.
Larry Dillon and Charles Tanksley are headed to South State.
Dillon qualified after taking third in a pair of events — the long jump and 100 meters.
Dillon long jumped 17 feet, 8.5 inches and ran the 100 in 11.94 seconds. Wayne Academy’s Austin West won the long jump at 20-2 and Laurel Christian School’s Hunter Melendez was the 100 winner in 11.73.
Tanksley qualified in the long jump after recording a distance of 18-5.5.
This was a qualifying meet. The top four finishers from each event advanced to the South State Meet, which will take place at Silliman, today and Saturday. Field events and the 3,200 meters take place today while the rest of the track events are set for Saturday.
The Buccaneers’ 4×200 relay team is headed to South State after coming in second with a time of 1 minute, 41 seconds. The team had Braden Edwards, Tanksley, Dillon and Gage Winget. Wayne Academy won in 1:39.
Also for Bowling Green, George Nobles was fifth in the shot put at 32-1. Laurel Christian School’s Jacob Odom won at 39-4.
