Trio of local teams compete in meet

Bogalusa, Pine and Varnado competed in the Strawberry Relays that took place Thursday at the Southeastern Louisiana University Track and Field Complex.
The meet featured a large number of teams and athletes.
Lafayette captured the team competition with 109 points.
St. Katherine Drexel Prep was second with 87, followed by Walker’s 86.5, Lafayette Christian’s 64.5 and Mandeville with 47, as 16 teams tallied at least one point.
Varnado’s Jaden Foster was ninth in the long jump with a distance of 14 feet, 8.5 inches. Lafayette’s Madison Chandler won at 17-3.
Varnado teammates Destiny Keys and Jalisia Jackson were ninth and 16th in the triple jump, after posting distances of 31-1.5 and 28-5. Lafayette Christian’s Madisyn Rideau won at 36-6.
Jackson and Bogalusa’s Jameka Lucas were 10th and 13th in the 300-meter hurdles, with times of 56.42 seconds and 58.78. St. Katherine Drexel Prep’s Alia Armstrong won the event in 44.05.
Vanrado teammates Debriana Weary and Jackson, along with Bogalusa’s Lucas, were 11th, 13th and 23rd for the 100 with times of 14.08, 14.18 and 14.93. Lafayette’s Jordan Lee won in 12.99.
Pine’s Makia Clark and Varnado teammates Sharday Williams and Kira Smith were 12th and 15th in the shot put after posting distances of 26-3 and 21-3. Lafayette Christian’s Bre Porter won the event at 42-3.
Clark, Varnado’s Asia Magee, Varnado’s Tamarya Bell and Bogalusa’s Cullene Cotton were 13th, 16th, 23rd and 24th in the discus with throws of 69-0, 57-3, 45-6 and 44-2. Lakeshore’s Ashley Ducre won at 103-11.
Bogalusa teammates Prayja Bickham and Mary Ladner and Varnado’s Brittany Smith were 13th, 17th and 28th in the 200, after completing the race in 29.16, 30.07 and 36.40. Lee won in 26.60.
Foster and teammate Hope Jefferson were 20th and 25th for the javelin with distances of 66-8 and 35-3. Walkter’s Brooklyn Giovingo won at 118-1.
Pine teammates Angel Cochran and Lauren Richardson were 15th and 16th in the 400 with times of 1 minute, 16 seconds and 1:46. St. Katherine Drexel Prep’s Cydni Samuel won in 1:00.
In the relays, Bogalusa and Varnado ran seventh and ninth in the 4×100 in 54.63 and 55.24. Lafayette won in 50.42.
Bogalusa’s runners were Bickham, Ladner, Lucas and Keyanna Haynes.
Bogalusa was seventh in the 4×200 with a time of 1:57. Lafayette won that race too, this time in 1:44.
Bogalusa’s team featured Bickham, Ladner, Lucas and Haynes.
