Bogalusa captures Strawberry Relays at SLU

HAMMOND — Bogalusa’s Clydeterrious Thompson was a triple-event winner, Bogalusa was victorious in the 4×100 and his team captured the meet while Varnado’s Armontee Kemp won an event at the Strawberry Relays that were held Thursday at the Southeastern Louisiana Track and Field Complex.
Thompson was victorious in the long jump, the 200 meters and the 400 meters.
Thompson long jumped 21 feet, 10 inches to win. Pine’s Markell Cotton was second with a distance of 21-1. Varnado’s Quincy James tied St. Thomas Aquinas’ Tyler Luster for seventh at 19-8 and teammate Darian Vargas had a 19-3 for ninth.
Thompson ran the 200 in 23.13 seconds to win. St. Charles Catholic’s Mandell Eugene was second with a time of 24.11. Varnado’s Desmond Harry and Bogalusa’s Raheem Roberts were fifth and eighth at 24.26 and 24.35.
Thompson was also victorious in the 400 after completing the race in 51.53. Covington’s Cameron Richards finished in second place, in 52 seconds. Varnado teammates James and T’Andrew Foster were fourth and 16th with times of 54.12 and 1 minute, 6 seconds.
Kemp was victorious in the 110-meter hurdles in 16.25. Springfield’s Waylon Mabry was second at 17.03. Bogalusa’s Dianté Lenoir was third in 17.42. Varnado’s Adrian Bickham and Dre’Toris Mark ran seventh and ninth, with times of 19 seconds and 19.44.
Bogalusa captured the 4×100 relay race in 44.43 in a close event. Lakeshore was second at 44.68. Varnado was seventh in 47.28.
The Lumberjacks’ runners were Thompson, Jared Jackson Jr., Roberts and Shadwick Gamble. The Wildcats’ runners were Darrius Harry, Desmond Harry, Korterrius Mingo and Jadarrell Magee.
Bogalusa was victorious in the team competition with 75 points.
The meet featured numerous athletes and teams. Seventeen teams posted at least one point.
Walker was second with 66.25 points, followed by Lakeshore’s 65.25, Lafayette Christian’s 63 and Varnado rounded out the top five with 45 points.
Pine was 14th with 10 points.
Roberts was second in the triple jump with a distance of 41 feet, 7.5 inches. Varnado’s Cameron Allen was third at 41-4. Cotton, Varnado’s Caleb Allen and Bogalusa’s Gamble were fifth, sixth and 10th with jumps of 39-9, 38-6.5 and 36-2. Lafayette Christian’s Pierre Dupre won at 43-4.5.
Kemp was third in the 300 hurdles, after completing the race in 43.82. Mark, Jackson and Bickham ran sixth, 11th and 15th, with times of 46.42, 51.10 and 57.11, respectively. Lakeshore’s Adam Randolph won with a time of 42.12.
Varnado teammates Zantonio Peters and Jaylen Peters ran fourth and fifth in the 100 and Gamble was ninth, with respective times of 11.80, 11.90 and 12.06. De La Salle’s Lance Robinson won the event in 11.31.
Roberts tied Lafayette Christian’s Kailen Thibodeaux for fourth in the high jump at 5-10. Bogalusa’s Jackson was sixth at 5-10 and Magee tied Walker’s Zach LaCour and Covington’s Latroy Walker at 5-8. Lafayette Christian’s Greg Williams won at 6-3.
Bogalusa teammates Steven Miller and Dusty Wager ran fifth and seventh in the 3,200, with times of 12:20 and 12:22. Mandeville’s Hank Snyder won in 10:25.
Varnado’s James Williams was eighth in the javelin while teammate Vargas took 11th and Pine’s Joe Whaley was 14th with throws of 123-5, 115-10 and 111-8. Walker’s Braeden Smith won at 147-0.
Pine’s Jakari Hart, Whaley, Bogalusa’s Kalik Foster and Varnado’s Demarcus Boston were 13th, 18th, 20th and 21st for the discus. Lakeshore’s Zach Bernard won at 131-4.
Whaley, Hart, Boston, Varnado’s Kyle Mickens and Foster were 14th, 19th, 21st, 23rd and 24th in the shot put with distances of 35-3, 31-4, 29-1, 26-11.5 and 23-6. St. Charles Catholic’s DeAndre Keller won with a 46-3.
Varnado’s Jarvis James, Pine’s Trent Barber, Bogalusa teammates Haikem Thompson and Miller, Pine’s Blaine Kirkpatrick and Varnado’s Rajan Ruffin were 13th, 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th and 25th in the 800 after completing the race in 2:22, 2:26.04, 2:26.13, 2:26.15, 2:26.39 and 2:42. St. Thomas Aquinas’ John Rose Donnes was the winner in 2:05.
Bogalusa’s Wager and Miller and Varnado’s Jalen James were 10th, 13th and 18th in the 1,600, with times of 5:25, 5:33 and 6:15. Snyder won in 4:36.
Capping off the relays, Bogalusa and Varnado ran third and seventh in the 4×200 with times of 1:33 and 1:36. Covington won the event in 1:31.
Bogalusa’s relay team included Thompson, Jackson, Roberts and Gamble. Varnado’s runners were Kemp, Desmond Harry, Kim McGowan and Jacorrius Bickham.
Bogalusa was second in the 4×400 and Varnado was fifth with times of 3:48 and 3:52.
Bogalusa’s team featured Mark, Haikem Thompson, Wager and Miller. Varnado’s runners were Cameron Allen, Caleb Allen, Vargas and James.
