Softball playoffs getting under way

The softball playoffs are starting and four teams from Washington Parish are beginning their postseason runs.
Local teams Franklinton, Pine, Varnado and Mt. Hermon made the playoffs.
Franklinton (13-10) made the Class 4A postseason as the No. 16 seed and are hosting a familiar team in 17th-seeded Pearl River (15-5) on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. Both teams are in the same district. The winner will play either top-seeded Morgan City (21-4) or No. 32 Edna Karr (11-8).
Franklinton is the only local team that is playing at home to open the postseason.
In Class 2A, 29th-seeded Pine (12-9) is traveling to fourth-seeded Mangham (19-11) for a playoff game on Monday at 5 p.m. The victor will face either No. 13 Pickering (14-14) or 20th-seeded Lake Arthur (11-12).
In Class 1A, 22nd-seeded Varnado (0-16) is on the road playing against No. 11 Haynesville (6-10). The winner will play sixth-seeded South Cameron (11-11), which has a bye in the opening round of the postseason.
Switching to Class B, No. 20 Mt. Hermon (9-9) is on the road, playing against 13th-seeded Glenmora (16-13). The winner will take on fourth-seeded Maurepas (17-13).
