Pine’s McKenzie captures tourney

Pine’s Tanner McKenzie was victorious in the final golf competition, prior to the Raiders’ district meet, on Tuesday at Franklinton Country Club.
McKenzie shot an 81 over 18 holes.
McKenzie won the 24-golfer competition by nine strokes over St. Thomas Aquinas’ Tim Tran.
Pine’s Brent Barber was fourth after posting a 94.
Pope John Paul II’s Jack Legnon was third with a 93 and St. Thomas Aquinas’ Hayes Daigle and Springfield’s Elijah Crain tied for fifth as both shot a 98.
The Raiders also captured the team competition with a 435.
The top four golfers from each school were used to determine team scores.
The rest of Pine’s golfers were McCauley Keaton, who posted a 122, and Jyrais Robinson tallied a 138.
For Varnado, Christian Mizell recorded a 125, Ryan Jefferson had a 138 and Collin Lozier tallied a 141.
Three girls competed.
Pine’s Dalanna Rester won the event with a 136.
Springfield’s Lanie Chandler was four strokes behind for second and Pine’s Breelee Barber had a 141 for third.
Pine won the team competition with a 277.
Scores from the top two golfers for each school were used to determine team scores.
Up next for Pine and Varnado is the district meet. Both schools are playing on Tuesday.
Pine is competing at The Island Country Club in Plaquemine while Varnado is at Riverland Golf and Country Club in LaPlace.
