The first step toward a track-and-field state title for athletes is getting underway with the district meets.
District meets for the seven Washington Parish High School teams begin today and run until next week.
The top four athletes from each event in their district event advance for regionals in LHSAA competition and South State for those in MAIS.
Mt. Hermon is in a district meet today at Broadmoor.
The rest of the district meets will be held next week.
Franklinton is headed to Salmen on Tuesday.
Three parish schools are competing Wednesday — Bowling Green, Pine and Varnado.
Bowling Green is in MAIS and is looking to qualify for South State. Pine is headed to Christ Episcopal School in Covington and Varnado is headed to St. Martin’s Episcopal.
Pine and Varnado are in the LHSAA.
Two more local schools will be in meets on Thursday — Bogalusa and Ben’s Ford Christian School.
Bogalusa is going to Jewel Sumner in LHSAA competition, while Ben’s Ford goes to Silliman Institute in MAIS competition.
