On Monday, the Bogalusa Police Department arrested a Bogalusa man, Darnell Reed, 47, on two warrants for simple burglary, according to Maj. Percy Knight of the BPD.

Knight, the public information officer for the BPD, said that Reed was already in custody at the Bogalusa City Jail on other charges. He is the suspect in two separate burglaries — one that took place at the Dollar General Store located at 1620 Ave. F and another that occurred at the Dollar General Store located on Sullivan Drive.

“On March 7 at 2:19 a.m., the Bogalusa Police Department answered a burglary alarm at the Dollar General Store on Avenue F,” Knight said. “When the officers arrived, the front door glass had been broken out and the suspect or suspects were gone. Forty-one packs of cigarettes were taken from the store.

“On March 7 at 11:33 p.m., the BPD answered a burglary alarm at the Dollar General Store on Sullivan Drive. When officers arrived, the front door glass was broken out and the suspect or suspects were gone.  Cigarettes were taken from the store.”

Knight said that Reed was listed as the suspect when BPD officers noticed him acting suspicious on Monday.

“Reed had in his possession a crow bar and a ski mask,” Knight said. “Reed was arrested for possession of burglary tools. Reed appeared to be the same person on both stores’ surveillance video footage, and he was wearing the exact type of tennis shoes. The BPD Detective Division examined Reed’s tennis shoes and glass was located in the soles.”

Warrants were issued by the BPD Detective Division, and Reed was arrested and booked on two counts of simple burglary.
