Varnado football, boys’ basketball banquet
Varnado High School is holding its football and boys’ basketball banquet on Wednesday, April 11 in the school’s cafeteria at 6 p.m.
The event is open to the public and free to attend.
SLU holding football Coaching Clinic
The Southeastern Louisiana University Louisiana Football Coaches Association Big Game Football Coaching Clinic takes place Thursday, April 12.
The event is open to all Louisiana High Football Coaches Association members.
The event begins at 8 a.m. with registration and breakfast and concludes with a crawfish boil at 6 p.m.
In between, coaches will meet SLU coach Frank Scelfo followed by coaching breakout sessions, a jambalaya luncheon, a coaches chalk talk, following team meetings, special teams meeting and individual meetings that coaches are welcome to attend before a practice and then the crawfish boil.
Bogalusa Little League holding softball signups
The Bogalusa little league is excited about celebrating its 40th year as a Charter Little League Program in Bogalusa.
This year, the Bogalusa Little League is offering softball for girls ages 9 to 12.
The child cannot turn 13 before May 1, 2018.
The league has teams in the Bogalusa, Varnado and Angie areas.
Signups are going on now. The fee is $30 per person and there is a discount for families with two or more children.

Franklinton Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament
The Franklinton Chamber of Commerce is having its inaugural golf tournament Friday, April 20 at the Franklinton Country Club.
The four-person scramble cost $400 per team. Breakfast is at 7:30 a.m. and there is a shotgun start beginning at 9 a.m.
The registration deadline is April 13.
The competition prizes include a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu, 2018 Harley Davidson, St. Andrews Golf Vacation for two that is for six days, 2018 Imitator side-by-side fully loaded, a four day/three night vacation package for two and assorted gift cards and door prizes.

Franklinton track, field teams holding color run
Franklinton’s track and field teams are holding their second annual color run on Saturday, April 28.
The two-mile race begins in front of the Franklinton football field house. During the race, participants are doused with color at various color stations ending with one final celebration at the finish line.
Check-in time is set for 9 a.m. in front of the field house and the race begins at 10 a.m.
Early registration, which runs through Friday, April 13, costs $20 for students and $25 for adults. Late sign ups are $30. Those who register late are not guaranteed a T-shirt.

Milltown Classic Race takes place in May
The 22nd annual Milltown Classic takes place Saturday, May 19 in Cassidy Park.
The 5K run/walk race helps benefit the Bogalusa Rotary Club.
Registration and check-in begins at 7 a.m. with the race set for 8 a.m.
The cost for pre-registered runners is $20. Raceday signups are $25 and the fee for children 12-under is $7. Pre-registration ends on Friday, May 18.
Trophies will be awarded for each age group. Age groups run every 10 years.
Entry forms can be obtained at 248 Richmond Street in Bogalusa or from any Rotary member.
Sports Work Academy Basketball Camp takes place in June
The 12th annual Sports Work Academy Basketball Camp is being held at the Bogalusa YMCA on Saturday, June 16.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the clinic gets under way at 9 a.m.
The cost is $20 per person.
The camp directors are 1985 Bogalusa High School graduate Michael Galloway along with Nikita Wilson. Murrell Galloway, who is a 1981 Bogalusa High School graduate, is the coaching staff captain and there will be special guest coaches/speakers.

YMCA Golf Classic takes place in August
The 14th annual YMCA Golf Classic is taking place on Saturday, Aug. 25 at the Bogalusa Country Club.
This is the YMCA’s main fundraiser of the year.
The two-person scramble costs $100 per golfer. The fee includes cart, green fees, mulligans and lunch.
Carts are limited, so golfers are asked to bring a cart if they have one.
On tournament day, registration begins at 10 a.m. with lunch set for 11 a.m. and the tournament gets under way at noon.
You can drop off early registration at the YMCA, which is located at 411 Avenue B in Bogalusa.
