Local athletes solid at Cowboy Relays

Several local track-and-field athletes recorded second-place finishes at the Cowboy Relays that took place Wednesday at Jewel Sumner.
Bogalusa’s Clydeterrious Thompson, Raheem Roberts and Jared Jackson Jr. and Franklinton’s Jasper LaSalle and Taylor Cooper were second in individual events and Bogalusa’s 4×100 relay team was second.
Thompson was second in the long jump with a distance of 21 feet, 5 inches. Port Allen’s Rashawn West was victorious at 21-8.75.
Roberts was runner up in the high jump in the high jump at 5-10. Teammate Jackson was fifth, posting a 5-8. Port Allen’s Gerrod Franklin won, clearing the 6-0 bar.
Jackson took second for the 110-meter hurdles after finishing the race in 17.28 seconds. Teammates Dianté Lenoir and Dre’Toris Mark were fifth and sixth, with times of 18.55 and 19.96, respectively. Jewel Sumner’s Dominic Haney’s 16.47 was the winning time.
LaSalle came in second for the javelin with a distance of 133-0. Lenoir was fifth at 121-3. Port Allen’s Travis Johnson won the event at 137-3.
Cooper posted a second-place finish in the 1,600, after running it in 5 minutes, 10 seconds. West Feliciana’s Emery Godke ran the race in 5:08 for the win.
Bogalusa’s 4×100 relay team ran a 45.15. The group featured D’Angelo Mark, Shadwick Gamble, Roberts and Jackson.
Franklinton, whose team had Damien Ard, Quaran Warren, Bryan Williams and Kian Conerly, was sixth with a time of 47.17.
Jewel Sumner won the race in 44.61.
Bogalusa and Franklinton were the only teams from Washington Parish in the meet and several more athletes were in the top six for various events.
Thompson finished third in the 100 after crossing the finish line in 11.73. Ard was sixth in 12.01. West Feliciana won in 11 seconds.
Franklinton’s Shayland Allen was third in the 400 with a 54.09. West Feliciana’s Darius Davis, who won the Outstanding Track award, was the winner in 48.33.
Three local athletes finished in the top six in the 3,200.
Bogalusa’s Steven Miller was third, Franklinton’s Titus Watts was fourth and Dusty Wager ran sixth, with times of 11:52, 11:56 and 12:56, respectively. Jewel Sumner’s Nick Story won the event in 11:02.
Roberts took fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 41-4. West won the event with a jump of 43-0.5.
Bogalusa’s Devonte Jackson finished fourth in the pole vault after clearing the bar at 7-6. West Feliciana’s Aiden Holland won at 11-0.
Franklinton’s Spencer Lambert was fourth in the discus with a throw of 107-6. Port Allen’s Treveon Scott, who won the Outstanding Field award, threw a 141-11 to win.
Dre’Toris Mark ran sixth in the 300 hurdles at 46.27. Kentwood’s Jaron Leflore won in 42.38.
In the other relays, Bogalusa was third in the 4×200 and Franklinton was fifth.
Bogalusa’s group of D’Angelo Mark, Roberts, Jackson and Thompson ran a 1:34. Franklinton’s runners Warren, Hayden Cotton, Ard and Allen finished in 1:38.
Jewel Sumner was the winner in 1:33.
Bogalusa and Franklinton were fourth and sixth in the 4×400, with times of 3:58 and 4:29, respectively.
Bogalusa’s runners were Terry Owns, Dyling Nelson, Haikem Thompson and Clydeterrious Thompson. Franklinton’s team included Cameron Sims, Shimon Davis, Lamar Gray and Stevie Thompson.
Port Allen won the team competition with 127 points in a close race to first.
Jewel Sumner was second with 124 points, as nine teams tallied at least one point.
West Feliciana’s 106 was third, followed by Kentwood’s 75, Bogalusa’s 71 and Franklinton’s 35.
