Ben’s Ford Christian School has named Derek Dantin as the school’s new athletic director, as of April 1.
“I’m just very excited about it,” Dantin said. “I graduated from Ben’s Ford. The school is special to me and my family. I think we’ve got the right coaches in each sport. I think each sport is headed in the right direction, so it’s a matter of continuing on that path.”
Dantin, 33, is a 2002 Ben’s Ford graduate.
At Ben’s Ford, Dantin was a basketball and baseball player.
He also coached the boys basketball team for four years through the 2007-08 season and was the football team’s offensive coordinator for the first two years of the program.
He will begin teaching at Ben’s Ford next school year.
Dantin is also the pastor of Oak Grove Baptist Church, where he has been for 12 years.
Dantin takes over the position from Mark McGehee, who has been the athletic director for two years.
McGehee steps down from the athletic director position, but will continue as the school’s general manager and girls’ basketball coach.
“I’ve enjoyed working with the kids in the athletic department,” McGehee said. “It’s not like I’m going away. I’m going to be involved with the day-to-day activities with the school. I’m thankful for the Lord sending us good help and I’m looking forward to working with Brother Derek.”
