Pine’s Sinopoli strong at track, field meet

Pine’s Evan Sinopoli finished in the top five during a pair of events at the Judy Baehr Relays that took place at Christ Episcopal School in Covington on Friday.
Sinopoli ran third in the 110-meter hurdles and was fifth in the long jump.
Sinopoli ran the hurdles in 19.41 seconds. St. Paul’s School’s Harrison Elliot won the race in 18.49. Sinopoli took fifth in the long jump with a distance of 18-feet, 9.75 inches. Catholic of Pointe Coupee’s Micah Cifreo won at 19-11.
Pine was the only team from Washington Parish in the meet.
Pine’s 4×200 relay team, which featured Blaine Kirkpatrick, Colton Graves, Ethan Sinopoli and Trent Barber, was ninth after finishing the race in 1 minute, 49 seconds. Catholic of Pointe Coupee won with a time of 1:34.
Graves and Ethan Sinopoli were 17th and 19th in the 800, with times of 2:40 and 2:46. St. Paul’s Stephen Schlottman won in 1:58.
Barber and Kirkpatrick were 15th and 16th during the 400, with times of 1:02 and 1:03. St. Thomas Aquinas’ Jude Vitrano won in 52.39.
Joe Whaley and Jakari Hart were 10th and 14th for the shot put, with distances of 32-9.5 and 30-10.5. Covenant Christian Academy’s Brayden Short was victorious in 40-7.
Hart and Whaley were ninth and 14th in the discus, with throws of 91-2 and 77-0. Short won at 146-11.
Whaley and Evan Sinopoli took 12th and 15th for the javelin at 106-10 and 89-9. Walker’s Braeden Smith topped the event at 155-0.
Pine was ninth in the team competition, with eight points.
St. Paul’s win the meet with 154 points, as 11 teams tallied points.
St. Thomas Aquinas was second with 87, followed by Walker’s 85, Live Oak’s 70 and Archbishop Hannan’s 57.
