Local archers compete in first national meet

Franklinton Junior High School eighth graders Meredith Rogers took second place and Bowling Green School eighth grader Matthew Bienvenu was eighth in the Archery Shooters Association Meet that took place in Foley, Ala., last weekend.
Rogers scored 385 points, finishing just nine points out of first place in the girls Middle School Pins Division.
In the boys Middle School Pins, Bienvenu tallied 389 points for eighth place. The top score was 424.
Bowling Green School eighth grader Austin Forbes was 12th at 376 while Bowling Green School seventh grader Jeremy Bryant took 16th with 361 and Bowling Green School seventh grader Andrew Taylor posted 322 points to finish 23rd.
This was the first national shoot of the year and the first leg of seven in the overall ranking system, which is done by points in each meet.
The top three scores by individuals determines their national status.
The next meet will take place on Friday, March 23, in Phenix City, Ala.
