Franklinton boys, girls capture team honors in golf

Franklinton’s boys and girls golf teams were victorious in the second week of the Northlake Golf League at Pinewood Country Club in Slidell on Tuesday.
The Demons’ top four golfers combined to post a 196, which was 12 strokes better than second-place Lakeshore, with four schools competing for team honors.
Salmen recorded a 211 and Pearl River tallied a 245, as the participants played nine holes.
Two Demons finished in the top five of the 21 golfers competing.
Caleb Mizell recorded a 42 to take second.
Dillen Reeves tied Lakeshore’s Jacob McCullum with a 44 for third.
Salmen’s Nick Himber won the event after carding a 41 in a close competition that saw three strokes separate the top four places.
Lakeshore’s Cody Moore rounded out the top five with a 46.
Franklinton’s Brett Bryant put up a 52, while Grant Thomas posted a 58 and Crockett McElveen tallied a 59.
Three golfers competed for Bogalusa.
Keltron Harry posted a 61 to lead the Lumberjacks.
Zachary Castilow and Ramero Watterson both had a 72 for Bogalusa.
In the girls competition, Franklinton’s top two golfers combined to shoot a 123 in the Lady Demons’ victory.
Pearl River was just four strokes behind, as two teams qualified for honors.
Franklinton’s Hannah Grace Henn posted a 57 to win the individual competition that featured five golfers.
Pearl River’s Sophie Lee was second at 63 and teammate Haley Miles was just a stroke behind for third.
Franklinton’s Madeleine Burris posted a 66 and teammate Katherine Haik tallied a 71 for the Lady Demons.
The league continues on Tuesday at the Franklinton Country Club and will play nine holes. Following that competition, they will play 18 holes for the rest of the season.
