Franklinton’s Maxwell throws no-hitter during tournament

Franklinton’s Demons went 1-2 in the WGNO Classic last Thursday and Saturday.
The first game was a 3-1 loss to Brother Martin on Thursday.
Wyatt Verret had the Demons’ only hit, which was a double.
Jared Jenkins allowed two runs on four hits, with strikeouts and three walks.
Bradlee Davidson allowed an unearned run in an inning with two strikeouts and a walk.
The Demons played two games on Saturday.
The first game was a 10-0 win in five innings over Archbishop Shaw, highlighted by Garrett Maxwell’s performance on the mound and Verret’s at the plate.
Maxwell threw a complete-game no-hitter. Maxwell tallied three strikeouts, two walks and he hit a batter.
Verret homered, doubled and drove in five runs in a 2-for-3 game.
Richard Berry, Jenkins and Trent Varnado all recorded two hits. Berry scored three runs, while Jenkins tallied two and Varnado posted one.
Hunter Blackwell, Jordan McKenzie and J.P. Magee all recorded a hit and a run batted in.
Ashton Corcoran tallied a hit and scored a run.
Nate Bracey had a run and drove in a run.
“The bats came alive and Garrett pitched a great game,” Franklinton coach Jeff Tageant said. “It was a great way to get our first win of the season.”
The final game was a 10-0 loss to Archbishop Rummel in five innings.
The Raiders tallied put up eight runs in the fourth inning to go up 10-0.
Berry, Bracey, Verret and Varnado all had one hit. Verret’s hit was a double.
“We were brought down to earth real quick,” Tageant said. “We need to be able to be focused for both games during a doubleheader.”
In Tuesday’s game, the Demons suffered a 10-0 loss to Live Oak on the road.
Franklinton was limited to two hits, one each by Bracey and Verret.
The Demons committed five errors in the loss.
