Mt. Hermon graduate named SSAC Conference Pitcher of the Week

William Carey’s Devin Smith was named the Southern States Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for Feb. 12-18.
Smith, who graduated from Mt. Hermon in 2015, threw a complete game four-hit shutout against No. 25 Webber International out of Florida.
The junior allowed struck out seven and walked just two over the seven innings. He needed just 92 pitches to accomplish the feat.
William Carey won that game, 11-0. The Crusaders led 3-0 after one inning and 4-0 through two. William Carey added five in the fourth and two more in the fifth for the 11-0 victory.
This season, Smith is 1-0 and has yet to allow a run over 11-2/3 innings pitched. Smith has struck out 13 and walked three. Opponents are hitting just .150 against him in his two games played.
The Crusaders are 9-2.
William Carey hosts Jarvis Christian College today and tomorrow in a doubleheader each day. Today’s games are 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. while tomorrow’s contests are at noon and 3 p.m.
