Baseball fans can head to Franklinton High School for the unofficial beginning of the LHSAA season, as several local teams are competing in a jamboree there today.
The five games are three innings and are scheduled to begin every hour, beginning at 2:45 p.m.
The opener is Franklinton and Pine.
Those two teams’ junior varsity squads will take the field in the 3:45 p.m. matchup in the only J.V. contest of the day.
The next game features Pine and Varnado, followed by Bogalusa and Varnado, and the event wraps up with Franklinton and Bogalusa.
Last season, Franklinton reached the Class 4A playoffs as the No. 18 seed and made it to the regionals. The Demons lost to second-seeded and state semifinalist Breaux Bridge, 12-0 and 12-2, in a best-of-three series.
Pine reached the Class 2A postseason as the 18th-seeded team, but lost to No. 15 Bunkie, 3-1.
Varnado reached the Class 1A quarterfinals as the sixth-seeded team, but suffered a 6-1 loss to third-seeded and state semifinalist Delhi Charter.
