National Signing Day took place Wednesday and six local athletes across two schools are continuing their football careers.
Four players from Bogalusa signed their National Letters of Intent.
Bogalusa’s Dianté Lenoir signed with Southwestern College in Kansas. Former Bogalusa player Tym Toussaint, along with Bogalusa seniors Joemon Roberts and Cody Sumrall, all inked with Bayou Prep in Baton Rouge.
“All of these guys, I love them,” Bogalusa coach David Roberts said. “They’ve been with me since I’ve been here and they’ve done a tremendous job working hard and they deserve to get a shot. Just glad they got a chance to go get some more education and another chance to play ball. Anytime one of our kids gets an opportunity to go somewhere and do something like that is just awesome. I’m just glad to see them get an opportunity.”
At Varnado, Desmond Harry signed with Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Mo., and Darian Vargas signed with Sterling College in Kansas.
“One thing about these kids is they’ve learned that it’s not just a ball team, this is a family and everything you do affects your family,” Varnado coach Scott Shaffett said. “They have lived their whole high school career believing that this football program and knowing that his football program is your family. That’s the thing they’re going to bring on to wherever they go.
“They’re going to bring that same leadership and that family bond wherever they go and then you add on top of that their athletic ability, their leadership ability and so forth, they’re going to open doors at the universities they play for.”
This was the second signing day of the school year. Several local players signed at the first one, which took place in December, and more may sign this school year.

Varnado’s Darian Vargas signs his National Letter of Intent to attend Sterling College in Kansas. He was one of two Varnado athletes to sign letters of intent on Wednesday. Desmond Harry signed a letter of intent to attend Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Mo.
