Varnado’s Bonnette captures weight class

SLIDELL — Varnado’s Jep Bonnette was victorious in his weight class in a powerlifting meet Saturday at Salmen.
Bonnette won the 114-pound weight class after lifting a combined total of 600 pounds between squat, bench and deadlifting. Bonnette squatted 215, benched 115 and deadlifted 270. Bonnette won by 50 pounds over Pope John Paul II’s Gavin Jenkins, who was second.
Varnado was the only team from Washington Parish competing in the meet.
Tydarrius Myers was third in the 242s. He squatted 305, benched 225 and deadlifted 350 for 880 total. Pope John Paul II’s Cameron Hammers won the event with 1,350.
T’Andrew Foster, Jacorrius Bickham and Jadarrell Magee and were fourth in their weight classes.
Foster, who is in the 132s, posted a 630 total. He posted a 205 squat, 145 bench and a 280 deadlift. Teammate Terryon Lewis was fifth in that weight class with a 585. Lewis squatted 195, benched 145 and deadlifted 245. Pope John Paul II’s Joseph Estopinal was the winner with an 885.
Bickham was fourth in the 148s with a total of 760. Bickham squatted 245, benched 235 and deadlifted 280. Salmen’s Karl Owens won the event with an 850.
Magee tallied a fourth-place finish in the 220s with a 995. Magee squatted 365, benched 225 and deadlifted 405. Pope John Paul II’s Peyton Smith was victorious with a combined weight of 1,290.
Varnado next competition is the regional meet, which is set for Saturday, Feb. 24, at Pope John Paul II.
