Lady Demons cruise past Lakeshore in District 8-4A play

Franklinton’s Lady Demons jumped out to a big lead and never looked back in a 57-13 victory over Lakeshore in a District 8-4A game at home Tuesday.
The Lady Demons went out to an 11-2 lead, after posting nine unanswered points in the first quarter.
With the game tied, 2-2, Danaria Magee split from the free-throw line to give her team a 3-2 advantage.
Magee then grabbed an offensive rebound and hit the putback for a three-point lead.
India Dickerson, who led Franklinton with 14 points that included a pair of 3-pointers, made it 7-2 with a steal and layup. Kaniya Dillon added two more after an offensive rebound and Shamya Hart drove for two more as the Lady Demons had an 11-2 lead with 3:43 left in the first quarter.
The Lady Demons were solid throughout, especially on the defensive end of creating turnovers.
“We work hard everyday. We have our moments sometimes,” Dickerson said.
Lakeshore’s Oleavia Ducre hit for two to make it an 11-4 contest, but the Lady Demons scored the next 15 points on a run that went into the second quarter.
Jayln Bickham hit a 3-pointer from the right corner with 2:01 left. Magee passed to Bickham for two more points a minute later and Magee connected with Dickerson for a layup with four seconds left. Franklinton was up 18-4 after one quarter.
The Lady Demons began the second quarter on an 8-0 run. The first six points were by Addison Carter, who knocked down two 3-pointers, and Dillon pulled down an offensive rebound and hit the putback. The Lady Demons were up 26-4 with 4:18 left and had a 34-8 lead by halftime.
Franklinton outscored Lakeshore 13-0 in the third quarter before going on to the 57-13 win.
It was Franklinton’s first game in more than a week.
“Not playing for an entire week, I was pretty pleased with what they did,” Franklinton coach Elecia Crain said. “Their shots were on a little bit better tonight.”
The game featured just three team fouls, all on Lakeshore. Two were shooting fouls, which were both by Magee. Magee hit three of her four free throws and tallied 11 points for the game.
Carter scored nine points while Dillon recorded eight, Bickham had five, Miriam Tate and Eliziah Riley posted three each and Hart and Arnesia Fortenberry added two each for Franklinton. Carter hit a trio of 3-pointers while Bickham, Tate and Riley all made one three.
Jara Phelps scored three points for Lakeshore on a 3-pointer, while Ducre, Jasmine Thomas, Madison Moore, Grace Sternberger and Hope Mejia all had two.
Franklinton improved to a 14-10 record, while Lakeshore fell to 0-9.
Franklinton is 26th in the unofficial LHSAA Class 4A power rankings while Lakeshore is 49th.
