Bowling Green’s Cailee Fruge and Breanna Tobey captured the top all-district awards for 4AAA and several more Lady Buccaneers were named first-team all-district players.

Fruge was named the league’s best offensive player while Tobey was selected as the district’s best defensive player.

This season, Fruge hit .339 with a .441 on-base percentage and .483 slugging percentage. Fruge doubled four times, tripled twice, drove in seven runs and scored 23 runs. Fruge struck out just five times in 69 plate appearances.

“It really meant a lot to me because I didn’t even know if I would play softball considering I tore my ACL in January,” Fruge said. “It meant a lot because I tried to be a leader on our team because we really had a young team this year.”

Tobey, who plays shortstop, posted a .914 fielding percentage. Offensively, Tobey hit .345 with a .413 on-base percentage and a .518 slugging percentage.

“It was an absolute honor and I know that I wouldn’t have been able to get it without the confidence coach Meghan (Dyer) gave me or without my parents driving me all over the country to practice and to my tournaments,” Tobey said. “I was happy to know that countless hours of extra practice paid off.”

Besides Fruge and Tobey, Hannah Creel, Jadyn Jenkins, Madelyn Burch, Landry Dupont and Cassidy Spears were named as first-team all-district players.

This season, Creel hit .279 and reached base at a .380 clip while tallying a .419 slugging percentage with four doubles, a triple, 13 RBIs and four runs scored. Creel, who also pitched, recorded a 1.23 ERA, allowing just 31 hits, 93 strikeouts and 11 walks in 68 innings.

Jenkins posted a .271 batting average, a .352 on-base percentage and .292 slugging percentage. Jenkins recorded a double with nine RBIs and 12 runs scored.

Burch, who pitched, posted a 2.35 ERA. Burch allowed 32 hits with 67 strikeouts and nine walks over 41-2/3 innings. At the plate, Burch batted .237 with a .310 on-base percentage and .263 slugging percentage. Burch drove in five runs and scored a run.

Dupont hit .333 with a .515 on-base percentage and .542 slugging percentage. Dupont doubled twice, tripled four times and drive in nine runs while scoring 21 runs.

Spears tallied a .246 batting average with a .338 on-base percentage and a .333 slugging percentage. Spears posted one homer, 18 RBIs and 10 runs scored with two doubles.

Bowling Green’s second-team all-district players are Anna Beninato, Allie McCain and Kylee Burris.

This season, three Lady Buccaneers made the all-star team, including Creel, Fruge and Jenkins.

Bowling Green reached the Class AAA South State Tournament, but came up a run short of advancing to the Class AAA Tournament in an elimination game, 5-4, against Porter’s Chapel.
