Franklinton runners take their mark at Class 4A state meet

Franklinton’s Demons competed in the Class 4A state meet Tuesday, Nov. 14, at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches.
Taylor Cooper was Franklinton’s top finisher, at 153rd place with a time of 21 minutes, 14 seconds in the three-mile race.
Teammate Titus Watts was 176th after completing the event in 22:43.
Aden Hartzog was 191st in 24:23 with Brendon Spears at 196 in 27:39 and James Jones running 199th at 32:41.
Carencro’s Key Alfred is the Class 4A state champion for the second straight year, as he tallied a time of 15:46.
He won the race by nearly 17 seconds over E.D. White’s Samuel Avants.
Carencro’s Cameron Angelle was third at 16:08, followed by Neville’s Josiah Perez’s 16:18 and Belle Chasse’s Alex Melcer’s 16:21. The event featured a field of 199 participants.
Belle Chasse won the team competition with 42 points, with 29 teams qualifying for points.
E.D. White was second with 94, followed by St. Michael the Archangel’s 105, Vandebilt Catholic’s 180 and Benton’s 213.
Franklinton High School was 29th with 873 points.
