Bogalusa’s Owens finishes 31st in state

Bogalusa’s Terry Owens was 31st in the Class 3A state cross-country meet that took place Tuesday, Nov. 14, at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches.
Owens ran the three-mile race in 18 minutes, 41 seconds to record his 31st-place finish. Bogalusa’s Dustin Wager ran a 23:23 to take 147th, while Juan Martinez was 153rd at 23:58.
University Lab’s Mack Moran was the 2017 Class 3A state champion after running a 16:36.
He won by less than two seconds over the runner-up, West Feliciana’s Chandler Sullivan.
Erath’s Ethan Suire was third at 16:49, followed by Sterlington’s Patton Sims’ 16:50 and West Feliciana’s Wyatt Barbe with a 17:02.
There were 173 competitors in the meet.
West Feliciana won a close team competition with 52 points.
Erath was just seven points behind for second place.
St. Louis’ 155, Haynes Academy’s 163 and University Lab’s 164 rounded out the top five of 23 qualifying teams.
