Pine quarterback Joey Seal scored five touchdowns and the Raiders had a strong rushing night in a 52-36 homecoming victory in District 9-2A play at home Friday.
Pine ran for 434 yards.
“I thought our offensive line did a very nice job. Anytime our backs are getting yards, it’s because of that. I thought Joey did a good job of making good reads and pitching the ball to our backs,” Pine coach Bradley Seal said.
Joey Seal ran for 102 yards and five touchdowns.
Jakyran Handy posted 165 yards on the ground and a pair of touchdowns. Delvric Dillon put up 85 yards and Damarea Odom had 75 yards on the ground.
Pine was also solid on the defensive end. The unit allowed just two touchdown drives.
Independence had two long returns and a pick-six. The Tigers had a punt return to Pine’s 10 and a punt return to the 5.
“I’ve got to give a lot of credit to our linebackers. I kind of challenged them throughout the week. Independence has some good running backs and they did a good job against them,” coach Seal said.
The Pine coach also said that Hunter Temples had a really good game.
The Raiders are 4-3 overall and 2-2 in district. Pine will be looking to break their trend this year of alternating wins and losses on Friday when the team travels to Northlake Christian to face the Wolverines.
