Bowling Green School is on the road tonight, as the Buccaneers head to Simpson Academy for a week nine matchup and a 7 p.m. kickoff.
The Buccaneers come into the week with an 0-8 record.
Bowling Green will be playing tonight without starting quarterback Cameron Bell, who is out for the rest of the season with a shoulder injury. Sophomore Jace Schexnider will be the team’s signal caller.
“He’s not as experienced as Cam,” Bowling Green coach David Currier said. “He’s got a little build. He’s played some. He manages the offense, but he’s not the starting quarterback. Jace runs the ball well, but our offensive line is not as physical as Simpson is.
“We’re trying not to put him in bad situations. We’re comfortable with Jace, but now we don’t have a backup for Jace at quarterback. We’re going to limit what we do. We were going to limit what we do because against a team like Simpson you have control the clock and run the ball.
“They’re more talented than we are. They’ve got more depth and faster players. We have to limit the possessions, get some first downs and not give up the big play on defense.”
Bowling Green is coming off of a 38-7 loss to Adams County Christian School. In that game, Larry Dillon ran 10 times for 56 yards. Cameron Brock had four rushing attempts for 55 yards and a touchdown. Bell was 5-for-7 passing for 61 yards and two interceptions and he ran for 23 yards on six carries, prior to the injury.
Currier credited seniors Gunner Peterson, Harrison Creel, Grady Ball and Devin Anthony. Currier said they have been there all been there for Currier’s three years and have all have done their part of leading by example. He said they have kept the team together and have kept things running smoothly.
Simpson comes in with a 5-3 record. Last week, Simpson won its fourth-straight game with a 40-13 victory over Hartfield Academy.
