Augustine captures overall title at Blues & Heritage Festival 5K Race

Glenn Augustine captured the overall title in the Bogalusa Blues and Heritage Festival 5K Race that took place in Cassidy Park on Saturday, Sept. 30.
Augustine was the top finisher in the race after running it in 19 minutes, 54 seconds. He ran nearly five seconds faster than Raymond McGriggs, who finished in 19:59.
Ethan Mizell (22:28) was third, followed by Matthew Godfrey (22:43) and Reginald Green Jr. (23:21).
The event featured 128 combined runners and walkers.
Ginger Kunkle was the top female runner. She ran a 26:58 and was 10th overall.
The top walker was Lorenda Ortega, whose time was 32:57. The top male walker was Nestor Anzola, who had a 35:43.
Steve Ortiz is the male masters champion and Jackie Jenkins is the female masters champion.
The top overall male and female runners, walkers and the top overall master runner for males and females took home a medal and Bogalusa Blues and Hertiage Festival poster. Master runners are those over 40.
Race director Suzie Pittman said they had beautiful weather and could not have asked for better. Pittman was also thankful for the Bogalusa Jr. ROTC.
“The ROTC were amazing on the course directing runners and making sure the participants stayed hydrated on the course,” Pittman said. “They were also cheering the runners and some of them participated.”
Pittman thanked her committee, which consists of Kenny Adams, Joyce Adams, Kristal Provost and Kassi Jones.
“They are amazing and helpful. I could not have done this without them,” Pittman said.
Participants were also awarded for how they did in the age groups, which are listed below. The top three finishers in each age group received a medal. The age groups were 12-under, 13-19 and then every 10 years to 60-over.
