Ben’s Ford Christian School plays its final home game of the regular season tonight, as the Eagles host Newton County Academy at 7 p.m. in a District 3AA contest and celebrate Senior Night.
“It’s a big night for the team,” Ben’s Ford coach Dean King said. “We finished the game strong last week. One thing we talked about these last two games is finishing the season strong and on a good note. It’s also senior night, so it’s the last time these seniors get to play on this field. Newton’s the best team in our district. We’ve had a good week of practice and we’re hoping for a good outcome Friday night.”
Ben’s Ford enters this week with a 2-5 record and is coming off of a 36-26 loss to Wayne Academy. The Eagles were down 28-6 at halftime, but trimmed it to 28-20 in the third quarter.
Kameron Underwood caught eight passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns along with a two-point conversion last week.
Gage Tervalon tallied a touchdown on an 8-yard run.
King talked highly of Tervalon, who is a running back and a linebacker.
“Gage is a kid that all season long has given 100 percent and he’s always going to give 100 percent,” King said. “He’s playing his senior year our full blast. During the season, he’s really improved for us. He’s got good vision and runs hard.”
Senior running back/linebacker Jacob Seal is another player that King credited.
“He’s a kid that’s banged up. He’s got a hurt knee and a hurt hand, but he’ll give you everything he’s got. He’s only about 50 percent, but he’s going to play with 100 percent,” King said.
Tyler Winstead threw for 250 yards and three touchdowns and an interception last week.
Justin Moore had a touchdown reception of 45 yards last week.
King said earlier this week that he was pleased with his defense last week and said they were facing a tough opponent.
Newton enters this week with a 3-4 record.
“It’s a district game,” Newton coach Robert Roberts said. “They look good on film. We’re 3-4, have lost three in a row. We’ve got our backs against the wall. I’ve got a young team. Both of us need to win to compete in district.”
The quarterback is Logan Little.
He is joined in the backfield by running backs Sage Gunn and Braxton Rose.
The wide receivers are Eli Finnegan and Kemp Alderman.
The top defenders are linebackers Logan Tadlock and Rose.
