Lady Bucs come up run short of advancing

Bowling Green came up a run short of advancing to the Class AAA Fast Pitch Tournament at Zachary Youth Park.
The Lady Bucs were playing in an elimination game Monday morning against Porter’s Chapel Academy. A win and Bowling Green would have clinched a spot in the Class AAA tournament and would have continued play in the competition. A loss and the Lady Bucs’ season would be over.
Bowling Green trailed, 5-0, as the Lady Bucs came to bat in the bottom of the seventh. Bowling Green scored four runs in the inning, but was unable to tally the tying or winning run.
Bowling Green finished the game with six hits.
Jayden Jenkins recorded two hits and scored a run.
Breanna Tobey, Landry Dupont, Cailee Fruge and Kylee Burris all had one hit. Tobey tripled and drove in two runs and scored one. Dupont recorded an RBI. Burris doubled and scored a run. Allie McCain scored a run.
Madelyn Burch and Hannah Creel pitched for Bowling Green.
Burch threw two innings and did not allow a run or hit, while striking out five and walking two. Creel pitched five innings, allowing five runs (none earned) on three hits with 10 strikeouts and one walk.
Bowling Green committed three errors. Porter’s Chapel scored a run in the third inning and four more in the fifth.
“Well, we didn’t get the win that we were hoping for but we had a good season with a lot of great accomplishments,” Bowling Green coach Meghan Dyer said. “We are losing three great seniors that will be greatly missed.”
Bowling Green went 1-1 in Saturday’s play.
The Lady Bucs won the first game, 10-0, in five innings over Central Private School.
Dupont, Fruge, Burris and Burch posted two hits each. Dupont tripled, drove in a run and scored three runs. Fruge tripled, had two RBIs and scored a run. Burris doubled, drove in three runs and scored a run. Burch drove in a run.
Tobey and Creel put up a hit each. Tobey doubled and drove in a run. Creel tripled, posted three RBIs and scored a pair of runs.
Cass Spears and Jenkins scored a run each.
Burch pitched a five-inning no-hitter. Burch struck out 13 and walked just one.
The Lady Buccaneers put up five runs in the first before adding a run in the second and four more in the fourth.
Bowling Green came up short in the next game, 2-1, to Adams County Christian School.
The Lady Bucs finished with five hits. Tobey posted two hits and a run. Fruge, Creel and Burris all put up a hit.
Creel went the distance on the mound, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits with 13 strikeouts and a walk.
Bowling Green scored a run in the third, but Adams tallied single runs in the fourth and the fifth inning for the victory.
