LSU redshirt sophomore Derrick Dillon got his season off to a solid start in the Tigers’ 27-0 victory over BYU, at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome last Saturday.
The 2015 Pine High School graduate made two catches for 21 yards and rushed once for 8 yards.
Dillon’s two catches proved to be important.
With the game scoreless in the opening period, LSU began possession with 6:35 left at its own 34.
The Tigers moved the ball to the 36 on a pair of running plays. Facing third-and-8, Danny Etling went to Dillon, who made the catch for 10 yards.
Later in the possession, LSU had another third-and-8, this time at BYU’s 33. Etling went back to Dillon. Dillon made the catch for another first down and was out-of-bounds at the 22.
The drive ended when Derrius Guice ran for a 4-yard touchdown. Jack Gonsoulin’s extra point made it 7-0.
The 12th-ranked Tigers are back in action Sept. 9, facing the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga in the home opener at Tiger Stadium.
