The Bogalusa Lumberjacks lost to the Chalmette High School Fighting Owls 51-20 at home on Friday.

It was a rough game defensively for Bogalusa, as the Chalmette offense finished with seven touchdowns, six extra points, and a field goal from the 35-yard-line.

After the Owls’ first touchdown, Lumberjack Diante Lenoir returned the kickoff from the Bogalusa 30 for 70 yards and Bogalusa’s first touchdown. Jay Baham missed the extra point, and the score was 7-6 in favor of Chalmette, just seven minutes into the game.

The Owls responded with a kickoff return for a touchdown of their own. Chalmette’s Roshyad Honeycutt caught the ball at the Owls’ 14 yard-line, and ran it back through the Lumberjacks for 86 yards and the Owls’ second touchdown. With the extra point, the score was 14-6.

Cody Sumrall attempted to fake a punt on the Lumberjacks’ next drive. Sumrall fumbled and the ball was recovered by Chalmette’s Gabriel Ernest at around Bogalusa’s 16 yard-line. Ernest then ran it in for the Owls’ third touchdown.

The Lumberjacks didn’t make it back on the board until the end of the second quarter after the Owls had chalked up another touchdown and a field goal. Diante Lenoir passed to Chase Smith from the 40-yard-line. Smith caught it and ran in for the touchdown. Lenoir successfully got through the Owls’ defense on a quarterback keeper on the two-point conversion, which made the score 31-14 in favor of Chalmette. The Owls continued to lead by the same margin, heading into the halftime break.

The second half opened with the Owls in possession, putting together a nine-play drive, and their fifth touchdown and extra point.

With the score 38-14 in favor of Chalmette, Tyrese Rousell received the kickoff at the Bogalusa 25 and returned it to the Chalmette 24 for a 51-yard return. Lenoir followed up with two quarterback keepers — the first for 21 yards and the second for the touchdown. Baham attempted a two-point conversion with a pass to Smith. The pass was incomplete and the score remained 38-20.

Chalmette put two more touchdowns on the board late in the game, both on completions from quarterback Jason Roper to receiver Michaund Blaise.

The Lumberjacks travel to face Franklinton next Friday in a rivalry game for the Pine Burr Trophy.
