The Washington Parish Library was recently the recipient of a generous grant from the International Paper Foundation, according to library officials.

This grant will provide each branch with fun, new children’s books for check out, incentive books for classes and the summer reading program, and snacks for children’s library events for the Summer Reading Program for 2018, “Libraries Rock.”

The IP Foundation also provided funds for the 2017 Summer Reading Program, themed “Build A Better World.” The funds given were used to purchase books on the subjects of recycling, animal care, and ecology.

This summer, 1,881 people participated in the Summer Reading programs, checking out 4,275 books. Each week, each branch hosted a professional artist to entertain and interpret the theme. Children and adults alike participated with and enjoyed Ronald McDonald, Komenka Dances of the World, Melinda Falgoust — author/story-teller, and Phil Melancon — musician to discover our part in doing what it takes to “Build A Better World.”

Library personnel would like to thank the International Paper Foundation for its continued support of the library and its programs, as well as its support for the community of Washington Parish.

It is through generous support like this that the library is able to offer events such as the Summer Reading Program, Story Times, Movie Matinees, and many other events. Check with your local library for events scheduled.
