Bogalusa competed against Bonnabel in a scrimmage Friday on the Lumberjacks’ practice field.
“I was pleased,” Bogalusa coach David Roberts said. “We didn’t have too many penalties. We didn’t make mistakes against ourselves. (Quarterback) Jay (Baham) made some good decisions and we blocked well. We made some mistakes, but that’s going to happen during a scrimmage.
“One thing I saw was that we need to get in better shape, but it was hot. Our kids need to battle through the heat because we do have a lot of kids going both ways, but we can spell them and give them breaks.”
The teams ran sets of plays before finishing up with a timed quarter.
Baham scored in the controlled part of the scrimmage on runs of 60 and 20 yards.
The Lumberjacks also captured the timed portion of the scrimmage, 14-0.
Chas Smith and Sylas McGowan had a touchdown reception each from Baham.
Kentrell Smith ran in the first two-point conversion and the second was an incomplete pass.
Defensively, Bogalusa had a number of sacks and a fumble recovery.
“Defense played well,” Roberts said. “We gave up a 60-yard touchdown on third-and-25, but other than that, the defense played well.”
Bogalusa will be back in action at the Our Lady of the Angels Washington Parish Jamboree on Friday at Franklinton High School. Bogalusa plays Varnado in the first game, which kicks off at 6:30 p.m.
