Franklinton heads to Live Oak for scrimmage

Franklinton’s Demons take to the field Thursday evening to play in a three-team scrimmage at Live Oak.
The competition features three teams in Franklinton, Live Oak and Slidell. The teams will play a pair of games that each feature a live 10-minute quarter. There will be no special teams except for extra points. The scrimmage starts at 5:30 p.m. and Franklinton will play in the second and third games.
“Two different teams and two totally different styles of offenses and defenses,” Franklinton coach Stephen Burris said. “It’s a lot to prepare for, but it’ll be good work.”
Burris said the coaching staff is trying to see where the Demons are, as a team.
“We’ve got guys that haven’t started before and we’re trying to see where they’re at against good teams,” Burris said.
Burris said the coaches will be able to see how strong the players are fundamentally, and will be able to judge the fight they have in them against both a spread team and an option team.
“We’re not putting a lot in scheme-wise because of how varied these offenses are,” Burris said.
Quarterback Tahj Magee will miss the scrimmage with an injury. Lagarian Bell and Jasper LaSalle will rotate at quarterback.
The Demons open the season in 15 days. Next Friday, Franklinton plays in the Washington Parish Jamboree, which kicks off at 6:30 p.m., at Franklinton. The Demons will play in the second game against Pine.
