Lady Buccaneers capture 2017 season opening victory

Bowling Green’s softball team began the season with a victory, after defeating Centreville Academy to open the season on Aug. 3.
The Lady Bucs were victorious over Centreville, 12-6, in the opener, which was on the road.
Bowling Green broke a 4-4 tie in the fifth inning by scoring six runs to go up 10-4. Both teams posted two runs in the sixth before the teams played a scoreless seventh.
The Lady Bucs finished with 10 hits, all singles, led by Kylee Burris. She went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Landry Dupont, Cass Spears and Jayden Jenkins all recorded two hits.
Dupont had a pair of RBIs and two runs scored. Spears drove in two runs. Jenkins scored three runs.
Calilee Fruge singled and drove in a run.
Alllie McCain scored three runs while Breanna Tobey and Anna Beninato tallied a run each.
Winning pitcher Madelyn Burch allowed three earned runs on 11 hits with eight strikeouts and a walk in a complete game performance.
Bowling Green was scheduled to play its home opener Monday, but the game was rained out.
Bowling Green played again yesterday against Amite School Center, but that game was not complete by press time.
The Lady Buccaneers will be back in action Friday against Wayne Academy at home. The next day, Bowling Green will head to the Amite School Center Tournament.
