Pine’s Breyanna Brown has signed a letter of intent to attend Angelina College and play basketball for the Lady Roadrunners.
Brown said she’s very excited about the decision and said her cousin Deontaye Chisholm, who is a former collegiate basketball player, helped her get a tryout with the school.
Brown flew out to Angelina, which is a junior college in Lufkin, Texas, and made the team.
“I’m very happy because at first I didn’t know if I wanted to play college basketball. Then I realized that basketball has always kept me focused and it always makes me happy playing it,” Brown said.
Brown started for six years with the Lady Raiders and scored 1,909 points during her time with the Lady Raiders.
Brown was a first-team all-district player at Pine all six years and the district’s Most Valuable Player three years in a row for the Lady Raiders in 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16.
Pine coach Mary McGinnis said she hopes Brown goes to Angelina and reaches her potential.
“She has a lot of potential. I hope she goes there, works hard and succeeds,” McGinnis said.
Brown is going to major in athletic training.
Last season, Angelina College finished with a 15-15 overall record and an 8-12 mark in conference play.
